Welcome to Shield Kennels and Yakuts of the Ozarks! With more than 35 years of experience working with dogs, our program is dedicated to preserving two incredible Nordic breeds: the Icelandic Sheepdog and the Yakutian Laika. We are passionate about breeding dogs that are healthy, structurally sound, and true to their breed standards while maintaining the wonderful temperaments that make them exceptional family companions and versatile working dogs. Our Icelandic Sheepdogs are bred with an emphasis on health, temperament, and preserving one of the world's oldest and rarest herding breeds. Known for their cheerful personalities, intelligence, and devotion to their families, Icelandic Sheepdogs thrive in active homes and excel in a variety of dog sports and activities. Through Yakuts of the Ozarks, our primary focus is the remarkable Yakutian Laika, an ancient Arctic breed developed by the Yakut people of Siberia for sledding, hunting, and companionship. These athletic, intelligent, and affectionate dogs are incredibly versatile and form deep bonds with their families while retaining the working ability that has defined the breed for centuries. Every puppy we raise is given the best possible start through comprehensive health testing, early neurological development, age appropriate socialization, and enrichment to help them grow into confident, well-rounded companions. We are committed to supporting our puppy families throughout the lifetime of their dog and to preserving these wonderful breeds for generations to come.
